ENERGY ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
A multinational pharmaceutical company with 8 plants in Ireland wanted to install an energy asset management system to provide monitoring and control of their electrical equipment and network, to manage energy consumption and, to provide system reliability and power quality reporting.
Premium Power (www.premiumpower.ie) was chosen to design, supply and integrate a smart grid control system, which could provide all of this functionality through a Web enabled management system. This involved the development of a bespoke control and software solution, which could achieve these goals.
The system installed provides;
- Energy management and control of all water air gas electricity etc.
- Remote switching of main MV circuit-breakers, ring main units and key loads.
- Control of site lighting in order to reduce energy consumption
- Monitoring and alarming for electrical power quality and reliability for mission critical system within the plant.
NETWORK MODELLING STUDY
As part of their energy asset management process the company needed to have their electrical network throughout their plants modelled. The purpose was to adjust the protection settings on all of their circuit breakers so as to minimise downtime in the event a fault taking place in equipment or the network itself.
Using advanced modelling tools for electrical networks, Premium Power engineers have advanced engineering experience in carrying out these types of study and were able to prepare the type of report required by the client and to advise the most suitable settings in order to ensure high uptime for critical equipment.
ARC FLASH STUDY
The client wished to investigate the safety implication relating to the risk of arc flash associated with electrical equipment.
Premium Power engineers carrier out a modelling study to calculate the energy that would be released at each location in the case of such an incident, and advised the customer of the types of Personnel Protection Equipment (PPE) and safety procedures that would be required when working at each location.
