ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The world’s leading electronic wafer manufacturer has its European headquarters and a very large plant near Dublin, Ireland. This manufacturer takes the issue of energy and power quality monitoring very seriously. The company wanted an energy management system integrator to supply and support its large network of power monitoring devices based on the ION® system. The company chose Premium Power Ltd. (www.premiumpower.ie) as the preferred system integrator. In addition to integrating the largest energy management system in Ireland, Premium Power supports the product and provides the company with expert advice on power quality problems.

HARMONIC STUDY

Premium Power was also chosen by this company to carry out a plant wide power factor and harmonic study. This involved the measurement and calculation of load generated harmonic distortion values, the modelling of the plant electrical network using an advanced network modelling tool, the simulation of a range of network configurations including standby generation and, the design of a harmonic filtering and power factor correction solution. Premium Power undertook a transient modelling study to examine the effect of connecting the recommended harmonic/power factor correction bank on production load during normal operation. It then designed a solution and prepared a specification for issue to selected vendors.

POWER QUALITY STUDY

Premium Power carried out a power quality study at the plant following the failure of a range of variable speed drives. This study involved the monitoring and analysis of the electrical power quality at these load locations and the effects of other loads connected at the same location. Solutions were designed to improve the up time of this machinery.
