WINDFARM POWER MONITORING

Green energy firm Airtricity has chosen Premium Power Ltd. (www.premiumpower.ie) as the supplier, integrator and supporter for an electrical power monitoring and diagnostic system for its dispersed windfarm sites. For this purpose Premium Power integrated the ION® system by PMC, Schneider Electric (www.schneider-electric.com), consisting of field monitors and a central server at Airtricity’s headquarters in Dublin. Advanced energy and power quality meters supplied and programmed by Premium Power are installed at each windfarm site. With a sampling rate of up to 51200 samples per second these meters can analyse all aspects of the electrical power quality and record details of any deviations or events which could reduce the reliability of the system.

ENTERPRISE WIDE SYSTEM

The central server communicates with Airtricity’s windfarm sites and downloads energy and power quality data, allowing the trending of windfarm output and the diagnosis of grid connection or wind turbine problems. In this way Airtricity can ensure critical issues are proactively addressed, preventing windfarm downtime.
